THE INTRODUCTION OF NATURAL LOCAL HERB

Malaysia is the rich country with natural treasures and suitable to be the centre of commercial traditional herbal medicine production. The efforts to develop this industry requires the involvement of farmer and entrepreneur. For herbal farmer, it easy for them to get this crops in forest area or make the process of plant propagation from seeds obtained. The herbal plants will be used as an ingredient in traditional herbal medicine. Traditional herbal medicine industry in Malaysia is believed can improve the country economic resource.

Malaysia have about 7,000 species of herbal plants. However, the efficacy of herbal plants still have not been testing yet in treating  disease. This condition not helping the society in general and also the development of the national economy. For some people, especially the Malays, they consider the traditional herbal medicine treatment are an alternative method that have the unique of its own.

 

 

The awareness about the danger using chemicals contained in modern medicine cause people to make turn using herbal method. In the medical field, this situation shows that the use of herbal plants growing importantly and worth in the eyes of the public. Unfortunately, until now, the production of herbal plants is quite slow because its only used as a basis for the preparation of traditional medicine ingredients. This have also caused problems to meet the demand at local market and the quality level export for herbal.

People now needs large quantity of herbal plants. To overcome the lack of herbal plants, many efforts have been made, for example ; breeding the herbal plants in large scale. In fact, there have been an efforts to collect and plant crops or make the garden of herbal plants (such as UKM, USM and FRIM) to save important plant species from extinction due to the rapid physical development.

Most of the efforts to re-plant this herbal plants be made from classification of diseases (pharmacy classification). This effort also aims to classify the type of crops species or genre to be well maintained in the future. There are many problems faced by the farmer or entrepreneur to grow the herbal plant. Among them, there are significant difference between the demand and production of herbal plants also the offer price not currently stable. This is due to the lack of knowledge of farmer in providing quality herbal plants and the quantity type of herb needed.
